In April 2024, Salud received unexpected news from Chichibu. During a routine check, the team discovered that cask #4569 had lost far more whisky during maturation than could ever be explained by the traditional angel’s share. Never before in the history of Chichibu had a cask yielded so little whisky. What remained amounted to only 75 bottles, an exceptionally small outturn even by Chichibu standards. Originally, this whisky was intended to become part of a 7EVEN Gods of Fortune release. However, with such a dramatically reduced yield, the remaining spirit was simply not enough for a full series bottling. Instead, the decision was made to preserve what remained of this remarkable cask as a separate and deeply limited release under the Spirits of Salud label: Angel’s Favourite. The story carries a poetic twist. We all know the legend of the angel’s share, the whisky that slowly evaporates during maturation, said to be enjoyed by angels watching over the casks. But in this case, it seemed the angels took more than their usual portion. Ironically, the members of our tasting panel, the very people who selected this whisky are often referred to as our “angels”. That this cask became their favourite makes its dramatic loss all the more bittersweet. Yet what remains is nothing short of extraordinary. Thanks to this unusual twist of fate, a handful of collectors in the Netherlands and Austria will have the rare opportunity to experience one of the most limited Chichibu releases ever bottled. A closer look at the label reveals the story captured in a single moment: an angel holding the cask with one hand, trying to protect the precious whisky from escaping. Perhaps she arrived too late… or perhaps she arrived just in time.

Notes of peat intertwine with vanilla and smoky bacon, while complex aromas of mint and Earl Grey tea add freshness and depth.
